About Wat Traimit
Wat Traimit stands at the edge of Bangkok's Chinatown and is home to a gleaming seated Buddha made of solid gold, more than three metres tall. For centuries the statue was hidden under a layer of plaster, and its true material was only discovered in the 20th century. Today it sits in a white marble hall reached by stairs, with good views over Yaowarat Road. The same building houses the Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage Center, which tells the story of Bangkok's Chinese community. Combine a visit with a street-food walk through Chinatown.
Highlights
- Golden Buddha A solid gold seated Buddha, long hidden under plaster.
