About Wat Kalayanamit
Wat Kalayanamit stands on the Thonburi bank of the Chao Phraya River, near the mouth of Khlong Bangkok Yai. It was founded in 1825 by a wealthy Thai-Chinese trader who donated it to King Rama III. The main wihan is unusually tall and houses one of Bangkok's largest seated Buddha images, which is especially loved by the Thai-Chinese community. The temple also has a large bronze bell, said to be among the biggest in Thailand. It is easy to combine with the Kudi Chin Portuguese quarter and its little church nearby.
