About Wat Phra Samut Chedi

Wat Phra Samut Chedi stands on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River close to its mouth in Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok. Its white chedi, once on a small island in the river, gave its name to the whole district. Nearby forts such as Phi Suea Samut and Phra Chulachomklao recall the river's defence and the 1893 Paknam Incident. Every year a large temple fair is held when the chedi is wrapped in red cloth. It is a pleasant outing combined with a ferry ride across the river from Pak Nam.

Highlights

  • White chedi The stupa that named the district.
  • River forts Historic defences near the river mouth.
  • Red-cloth fair A yearly fair when the chedi is wrapped.
