About Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo (Si Satchanalai)
Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo, the 'temple of seven rows of chedis', lies in the centre of old Si Satchanalai opposite Wat Chang Lom. It contains dozens of small stupas in different styles, which scholars believe held the ashes of the local ruling family. Excavations by the Fine Arts Department later showed there were actually nine rows. The main chedi has a lotus-bud top like those in Sukhothai, and some small shrines still show traces of stucco Buddhas and murals. It is a lovely place to wander among the brick towers in the soft afternoon light.
