About Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya
Wat Phra Borommathat Chaiya is a first-class royal temple in Chaiya, Surat Thani, and one of the three most sacred stupas of southern Thailand. Its chedi, built in the style of the Srivijaya kingdom, is one of the oldest in the country and is said to enshrine relics of the Buddha. The square brick tower with stepped tiers and small corner towers is unlike typical Thai chedis. A small museum holds Srivijaya-era sculptures. Chaiya is a quiet town on the railway line, and the nearby monastery of Suan Mokkh makes a natural pairing.
