About Wat Khunaram (Ko Samui)
Wat Khunaram lies on the main ring road of Ko Samui between Na Muang and Hua Thanon, about 6 kilometres west of Lamai. It is best known as the shrine of the 'mummified monk', Luang Pho Daeng, who died in 1973 while meditating and asked that his body be displayed as a reminder of the impermanence of life. He sits upright in a glass case, wearing sunglasses that were added by monks to cover his eye sockets. The sight is unusual but treated with deep respect by locals. Please behave quietly and dress modestly.
