About Wat Pha Lat
Wat Pha Lat, 'the monastery at the sloping rock', is a small forest temple on the slopes of Doi Suthep above Chiang Mai. It was founded in the 14th century under King Kuena as a resting place for pilgrims on their way up to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Mossy statues, a stream flowing over smooth rock and old Lanna and Burmese-style buildings make it feel hidden in the jungle. Many visitors reach it on the 'Monk's Trail', a forest path starting near Chiang Mai University. Bring water and good shoes, and keep quiet for the resident monks.
