About Wat Matchimawat (Songkhla)
Wat Matchimawat, also called Wat Klang, is the main temple of Songkhla's old town on Saiburi Road. It is a royal temple, and its ordination hall is decorated with murals of everyday life and Buddhist stories, as well as stone carvings showing Chinese influence. The grounds also house a small museum with local archaeological finds and old objects. Songkhla's historic streets, with Sino-Portuguese shophouses and street art, are a short walk away. It is a calm place to experience southern Thai Buddhist culture away from the beach resorts.
