About Wat Chamadevi
Wat Chamadevi, also called Wat Ku Kut, lies on the western side of Lamphun and is named after Queen Chamadevi, the legendary first ruler of the Mon kingdom of Hariphunchai. It contains rare intact remains of the Mon Dvaravati civilisation, built between the 8th and 11th centuries. The square stepped chedi, Suwan Chang Kot, has niches on five levels, each holding a standing Buddha image. A smaller octagonal chedi stands nearby. The temple is quiet and easily combined with Wat Phra That Hariphunchai on a day trip from Chiang Mai.
