About Shark Bay (Thian Og)
- Access type
- 🏖️ Snorkel from the beach
You swim to the reef without an extra boat. That can still take some distance, enough water depth and swimming skills. - Location
- South coast of Koh Tao, Surat Thani.
- Activity
- Snorkeling from the beach, mainly for possible wildlife sightings.
- How you get into the water
- Yes, but check land access via resorts and paths beforehand.
- Under water
- Mainly a chance of green sea turtles and blacktip reef sharks. Animals are never guaranteed.
- Good to know
- Do not come here for pristine coral. To see the animals you sometimes have to swim further out; depth and current make that less straightforward for beginners.
- Access now
- No separate, current guarantee of access was found; check local access and conditions on the spot.
When to go to Shark Bay (Thian Og)
Month by month, following the seasons from our research. Weather, waves, current and tide on the day itself decide whether it works.
Main season: February, March, April, May.
Koh Tao and Koh Phangan: February–May is a strong general starting point. Suitable conditions can also occur in summer; pick the sheltered side of the island on the day itself. Later in the year the Gulf rainy season can have more influence.
