About Wat Phanan Choeng
Wat Phanan Choeng stands on the east bank of the Chao Phraya River at its meeting with the Pa Sak River, just southeast of Ayutthaya island. It is a busy working temple, said to be older than the city itself. The main wihan holds Luang Pho To, a huge seated Buddha about 19 metres tall, deeply revered by both Thai and Thai-Chinese worshippers. Visitors often see people offering long saffron cloths that are passed over the statue. A Chinese shrine on the grounds reflects the temple's strong links with the Chinese community.
