About Wat Lokayasutharam
Wat Lokayasutharam is best known for its enormous open-air reclining Buddha, about 37 metres long and 8 metres high, lying in a field on the western side of Ayutthaya island. The temple buildings around it have mostly disappeared, so the white plastered figure rests peacefully under the sky, often draped with a saffron cloth by worshippers. Behind it stand the remains of a prang and brick foundations. It is free to wander around and makes a quick, memorable stop when cycling between the island's temples. Visit early or late to avoid the midday heat.
